– April 19th, 2016 –

Amon Amarth is inviting fans around the globe to be a part of their forthcoming video for “Raise Your Horns”! The video will include live clips of the band performing in multiple countries, plus you – the fans – raising your horns to Amon Amarth! Do you have a wall plastered with Amon Amarth and other metal posters? Did you just attend a live show or are going to one soon? Send us clips of you and your friends raising your horns to the band for a chance to be included in the video. Clips should be e-mailed to raiseyourhornsvideo@gmail.com. YouTube links should include #RaiseYourHorns in the title. Submissions are requested to be sent in by May 27th, 2016. The video is tentatively scheduled for a June release.

Currently on tour with fellow Swedes Entombed A.D. and young USA metal upstarts Exmortus, Amon Amarth recently released their new album, Jomsviking, to critical acclaim. Jomsviking – the band’s first concept record in their storied career – tells a tragic, original tale of conflict and revenge, backed by the Swedes’ trademark melodic, anthemic metal, which was produced and mixed once again by Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Testament, Accept). For their efforts, Amon Amarth landed on the global charts (including a #11 spot on the USA Current Album Billboard Chart!). To purchase and preview Jomsviking, please visit amonamarth.com, where the record is available in various formats, and the videos for “At Dawn’s First Light” and “First Kill” can be viewed.

Saturday Afternoon Stomp – Mudstomp Records and Coda

Last Saturday, we had the privilege to hang out at the Coda for  Saturday Afternoon Stomp.  Saturday Afternoon Stomp is sponsored by Mudstomp Records. They showcased two artists – Dr. Dave Duly and Anthony Occhipinti.  Both are excellent artists so we knew it was going to be an adventure.

Dr. Dave Duly and the Painkillers (Dave Duly, Billy Beale, Drew Burasco, Tammy Gifford, Anthony Occhipinti, and Rev. Digg) started off the show with music from Dr. Dave’s new CD – “Playing on Borrowed Time” (to be released digitally on May 13). All of these artists are excellent in their own right.  One thing to keep in mind is that this is not Dr. Dave’s “band” but a group of friends who got together to work together for this show.  Most of them have played together (some on the CD) but there are no “rehearsals” or “band time” involved.

That being said, I was surprised at how well they all play together.  It started off a little rough while everyone tried to find their niche in this blend of musicians.  By the second song, they were beginning to get it all together.  By the third song, it was pretty tight.  One of my favorite songs off this CD is “Crime of Passion.”  They pulled this one off quite well.  This whole set went from gut-wrenching Blues to Ragtime.  One of the songs that was the most fun was “Too Quick To See.”  This one will be released digitally as a single on April 23.

More than anything, you could tell these musicians enjoyed playing together and that rubbed off onto the crowd.  You could tell, looking around, that everyone was enjoying the music.  That is more important than musical perfection.

The second set was Anthony Occhipinti.  His sound is very “Jack White.”  I enjoy his playing style and he interacts well with the audience.  I appreciated the fact that he brought in several friends to “help out” including Leslie Giggler, Don Simon, and Sara Bodega.  Leslie’s vocals on “Jolene” were amazing.  Excellent job.  I really enjoyed the medley with Sara (“Jack White’s Girlfriend cracked me up).  I believe my favorite song musically, was Babylon.  Excellent writing and performing on this one

Then we get to the food.  The specials for the afternoon were two fantastic appetizers.  The Parmesan-Garlic encrusted wings were fantastic.  They are great if you are looking for something that is not too adventurous but quite tasty.  However, the second appetizer was a Balsamic Bruschetta.  The tomatoes and cheese marinated in Balsamic vinegar were amazing.  Perfect offset to the crunchy Bruschetta.  The highlight of this appetizer was the Balsamic reduction, though.  That set this dish off perfectly.  Excellent blend of Balsamic and sugar.  Not too sweet.

As always, the service and atmosphere at Coda are amazing.  Couldn’t ask for a better “Listening Room” to go hear your favorite artists (or discover new ones).  Perfect day!

– April 25th, 2016 –

Last month, German thrashers Accuser released their new album – and Metal Blade Records debut – The Forlorn Divide. Now, the band is launching a live video for the album track, “Unreal Perception”, which was filmed at the release show a few weeks ago at the Vortex club in Siegen, Germany. To watch the video – and to purchase the record in various formats – please visit: metalblade.com/accuser

Accuser comments: “The song is about not real things that affect the human psyche to paranoia. Not real things are among others informative media or video games. The media madness. We had the idea to shoot a video for the song at our release show to capture the live energy of Accuser.”

The Forlorn Divide took shape once again at Gernhart Studio, featuring Accuser‘s trademark blend of powerful thrash metal, virtuoso guitar-work, intricate drum patterns – and of course, gripping, harsh vocals, highlighting the dark recesses of human psyche that are described in the lyrics. After 30 years in the scene, the members of Accuser have perfected their signature style with The Forlorn Divide – a veteran lesson in thrash from Siegen’s stalwarts!

See below for acclaimed reviews of The Forlorn Divide:

“…musically exemplary. The younger generation could learn a thing (or ten) from these gentlemen.” DeadRhetoric.com

“Absolute top level!” Deaf Forever (Germany)

“Is it just me, or are Accuser just getting better and better? ‘The Forlorn Divide‘ shows the band at its most heavy so far!” Legacy (Germany)

“‘The Forlorn Divide‘ shows all those youngsters what thrash metal is really about!” Metal Hammer (Germany)

Metal Blade Records Inks Deal With Trial

Swedish metal act Trial has signed on with Metal Blade Records.

Trial formed in 2007, but it was not until 2013 when the band wrote and recorded the “Malicious Arts” EP (2013), which became yet a stepping stone from where the band was to where they wanted to be. “That EP, in many ways, became our first road to liberate us from ourselves,” the band recalled. “Rising from the ashes of our former selves, we took things further beyond, which ultimately resulted in the album ‘Vessel’.”

After earning acclaimed reviews for “Vessel” (2015), Trial’s popularity continued to grow, and it wasn’t long before Metal Blade Records signed the band. With plans to re-invent themselves once again, Trial’s upcoming debut for the label promises to be another step forward a budding career.

Comments the band: “We’re honored to be able to work with such a prestigious and historically important label as Metal Blade. Many of their previous releases are milestones in the genre and of great inspiration to us. To join their roster of artists and be a part of that legacy is one step further towards the perfection of our craft!”

‘Mechanisms of Omniscience’ out now worldwide

Today, Massachusetts-based extreme metal outfit Abnormality has released their sophomore full-length, Mechanisms of Omniscience, worldwide via Metal Blade Records! Marrying the ceaseless brutality coming out of New York and New England to the hyper-blasting intensity endemic to Quebecois death metal, Mechanisms of Omniscience is as unrelenting as it is passionate, and the album tackles real world issues with intelligence and raw emotion. To hear the record in its entirety, head over to RevolverMag.com for the exclusive stream: revolvermag.com

To purchase Mechanisms of Omniscience in various formats, please visit: metalblade.com/abnormality

Formed in 2005, Abnormality drew its members from the ranks of units such as Teratism, Forced Asphyxiation, Goratory and Sexcrement, and they have worked patiently and persistently to build up a grassroots following, maintaining their integrity while steadily expanding beyond their local scene. In 2010, they dropped their debut EP, The Collective Calm In Mortal Oblivion, which immediately drew attention in the underground, followed by the crushing and critically acclaimed full-length, Contaminating The Hive Mind (2012), cementing their status as one of the heaviest and most dynamic bands in the genre. Now, with their new sophomore effort, Mechanisms of Omniscience – produced once again by Peter Rutcho, and featuring artwork by vocalist Mallika Sundaramurthy – the quintet have never been more serious about getting their message out there, as well as ensuring legions of the moshing masses incur whiplash. See below for the official track-listing!

Mechanisms of Omniscience track-listing
1. Swarm
2. Synthetic Pathogenesis
3. Mechanisms of Omniscience
4. Catalyst of Metamorphosis
5. Vigilant Ignorance
6. Irreversible
7. Hopeless Masses
8. Assimilation

Read on for some reviews of Abnormality‘s acclaimed new album:

“It’s as if Abnormality took all the best elements of modern tech-death, mashed it up with the old school variety, infused it with a sense of groove rarely felt in metal’s more technical corners and created one seething, roaring, fire-breathing death metal beast. If you ever found yourself wishing that Hate Eternal, Origin or something even more frenetic like Brain Drill just slowed their music the fuck down a little bit without sacrificing the brutality,Abnormality are the band for you.”MetalSucks.net

“Want blazing speed and chaos wrapped alongside chunky and memorable grooves? ‘Mechanisms of Omniscience‘ is just for you. It stays true to its vision of death metal while sneaking in curiously memorable riffs to keep you on your toes and ensuring that you’ll be back for more.”DeadRhetoric.com

“‘Mechanisms Of Omniscience‘ is Abnormality‘s most polished-sounding and dynamic release to date and stands head and shoulders with everything else they’ve released so far.”NoCleanSinging.com

Kamelot released a new music video for the track “My Therapy,” the latest clip from the band’s 2015 album “Haven” (see review here).

“My Therapy” serves to put a spotlight on social anxiety that effects up to 20% of adults worldwide. Kamelot vocalist Tommy Karevik adds: “The original idea of the song was based on experiments done years ago on children where they would be clinically taken care of, but never held, loved or nurtured. The outcome was disastrous and proves that in this sometimes complicated world spinning faster and faster, the very foundation of our health and well being really rests upon something very simple and uncomplicated… The human touch….”

Check out Kamelot in concert at the following upcoming events:

25.05.16 JP – Nagoya / Club Quattro
26.05.16 JP – Osaka / Umeda Club Quattro

Execration Signs With Metal Blade Records

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce the worldwide, multi-album signing of Norwegian death metal group Execration.

Execration comments: “We’re really excited to pen this deal with Metal Blade. Metal Blade is a legendary label, with legendary bands and releases from all the way back to the beginning, and joining the ranks is a true privilege. After an eventful year with touring and receiving a Norwegian Grammy Award for our latest album, we are now ready to embark on the next chapter for Execration, and we’re confident that Metal Blade is the perfect partner in doing so.”

Execration formed in 2004 and unleashed a few demos and an EP before releasing debut full-length, “Syndicate Of Lethargy,” in 2008. It wasn’t until 2011 and the release of sophomore effort, “Odes Of The Occult,” that the band gained more recognition in the scene, which resulted in acclaimed reviews and high-profile festival performances, including Inferno Festival, Beyond the Gates, and Killtown Deathfest, plus a tour of southern Europe.

Before the next release, Execration replaced the B-tuned guitars with regular E-tuning, which offered new opportunities in terms of sound and what kinds of riffs would work well. This sparked the creative period that created 2014’s “Morbid Dimensions” – the band’s third album.

Execration is now in the final stages of the songwriting process for a fourth album, but unlike the previous two releases, this upcoming effort will not mark a dramatic stylistic shift. Fans can expect an array of catchy, complex, prog-infused, intense tracks that will surely garner accolades once again. Stay tuned for more information coming soon.

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce the worldwide, multi-album signing of Norwegian death metallers Execration!

Execration formed in 2004 and unleashed a few demos and an EP before releasing their debut full-length, Syndicate Of Lethargy, in 2008. It wasn’t until 2011 and the release of their sophomore effort, Odes Of The Occult, that the band gained more recognition in the scene, which resulted in acclaimed reviews and high-profile festival performances, including Inferno Festival, Beyond the Gates, Killtown Deathfest – plus a tour of southern Europe. On this album, Execration incorporated a wider set of influences: namely black metal, but also more obscure sounds, such as open strung riffs and a general focus on atmosphere over brutality.

Before the next release, Execration replaced the B-tuned guitars with regular E-tuning, which offered new opportunities in terms of sound and what kinds of riffs would work well. This sparked the creative period that created 2014′s Morbid Dimensions – the band’s third album – which received even better reviews and landed Execration a Spellemannspris (Norwegian Grammy) in January 2015. Following this release, they played gigs over most of Norway – including the country’s biggest festivals (Inferno, Blastfest) – plus, completed a brief tour with Cannibal Corpse, in addition to festival appearances in Germany (Chaos Descends) and the UK (Live Evil).

Execration is now in the final stages of the song-writing process for their fourth album, but unlike the previous two releases, their upcoming effort will not mark a dramatic stylistic shift. It will be the most compact Execration album to-date – shorter, and with tighter compositions. Fans can expect an array of catchy, complex, prog-infused, intense tracks that will surely garner accolades once again. Stay tuned for more information coming soon!

To hear the album in its entirety, head over to Loudwire.com for the exclusive stream – plus an interview with the band’s own Phil Sgrosso (vocals/guitar/bass), who also produced Poison Headache: loudwire.com

Poison Headache is a 10-song monster: a heaving, teeth-bared mass of anger, violent intent, aggression, and terrible certainty – mixed by Taylor Young (Nails, Twitching Tongues) and mastered by Brad Boatright (Black Breath, Inverloch, Sleep) of Audiosiege Mastering. One part Entombed Wolverine Blues, one part Motorhead Ace of Spades, and one part Converge Jane Doe, Poison Headache is crossover for the new age.

Read on for some reviews of Poison Headache‘s acclaimed debut:

“…the San Diego trio’s self-titled debut rips and tears through a gnarly mix of hardcore, thrash, crust, and general bad vibes, and you can just tell that they’re going to slay live once they get out of California.”Noisey.Vice.com

“If you dig insanely well-written corrosive hardcore with a knife-sharp metal edge to it – and who amongst us doesn’t? – you’re gonna dig Poison Headache.”MetalSucks.net

“This shit is so violent you almost can’t listen to it sitting down, which is a testament to the music’s energy.”MetalInjection.net

“…if you like music like Nails, or Twitching Tongues, you’ve got a new band to add to your list of metal/hardcore bands to keep an eye out for.”MetalInsider.net

Poison Headache play dark and aggressive hardcore with a little twist of gothic melancholy thrown in. Their album will fit nicely in my library on the same shelf as Integrity, sandwiched between The Banner and Harm’s Way.”InvisibleOranges.com

San Diego metallic-hardcore trio Poison Headache has released their new self-titled debut today via Metal Blade Records. To purchase Poison Headache, please visit metalblade.com/poisonheadache or poisonheadache.com, where the record is available in various formats.
